Support the Susan Torres Fund

On May 7th, 2005, the day before Mothers' Day, Susan M. (Rollins) Torres -- a 26-year-old vaccine researcher at NIH; mother of a two-year-old son, Peter; graduate of the University of Dallas; and parishioner at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia collapsed. She was rushed to the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, where she has been diagnosed with stage-four melanoma and is brain dead with no hope of recovery.

Susan was 17 weeks pregnant at the time and although the doctors have given her no hope of survival, they are fighting to keep her unborn daughter alive until at least July 18 when she will have a viable chance at life.

Her family is really starting to show signs of the strain this is causing; mentally, physically and financially. In an effort to escalate the awareness of their situation, and to help raise additional funds, friends of the Torres family have established The Susan M. Torres Fund to help defray the $1,500 a day ICU medical costs that insurance does not cover. Please help this family by sending a donation. Any amount is appreciated and it is tax deductible. Donations can be sent to:

Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has announced her retirement from the US Supreme Court

Although frequently portrayed in the main-stream media as a “moderate”, and despite having been nominated by prolife President Ronald Reagan in 1984, Justice O’Connor sided with the 6-3 majority in the Planned Parenthood v. Casey case which re-affirmed Roe v. Wade, and was the deciding swing vote in Stenberg v. Carhart which struck down the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. Unfortunately, many members of the US Senate, including NY Senators Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton have indicated that anyone unwilling to swear fealty to “Reproductive Rights” can expect ferocious opposition at Senate confirmation hearings and have called for another Justice just like O’Connor! We encourage everyone to make their feelings known about to Senators Schumer and Clinton by any and every means necessary in the hopes it will temper these extremist lawmakers to avoid an ugly and bruising spectacle.

Contact Senator Charles Schumer at 313 HART SENATE OFFICE BUILDING, WASHINGTON, DC 20510 or 202-224-6542; and for Senator Hillary Clinton: 476 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING, WASHINGTON, DC 20510 or 202-224-4451.

Contact President Bush and tell him you support his promise to appoint justices like Scalia and Thomas who are strongly pro-life.  The White House comment line phone number is 202-456-1111. Or mail him at The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500.

Oh Saratoga!

August 14-18, 2005

is an annual four day event which celebrates life and exposes the holocaust of abortion in the Albany, NY area. Its high profile presence will sanctify the streets with prayer, preaching, music and sidewalk counseling from August 14-18, 2005.

Beginning three years ago as a local grassroots effort, Oh Saratoga! now attracts people from around the country and from diverse denominations. United by the Gospel of Life and the courage to witness on behalf of the least among us, their prayers and signs confront a different abortuary each day. Sidewalk counselors offer the God’s love and healing alternatives to each mother intent on sacrificing her unborn child. Prophetic preaching by a Catholic priest and an evangelical minister is carried through a sound system into the shops and thoroughfares of the cities. The live Christian music inspires praise and invokes Divine mercy.

Meals and lodging are provided at Pine Grove Campground, a wooded Christian property in historic Saratoga Springs. The days begin there with Catholic Mass and Bible study, and end with worship and fellowship. Food is prepared and served in a large cafeteria. There are cabins on site and spaces for campers and RVs. Children can play in the safety of this wholesome environment.  Located in verdant foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, it is the perfect setting for a family vacation combined with evangelizing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Stop Embryonic Stem Cell Research in New York

Contact Your Assembly Representative Now

On Tuesday, May 3, 2005 the New York State Assembly Health Committee voted in favor of releasing dangerous legislation (A.6300) that would promote human cloning for the purpose of conducting medical experiments on living human embryos. This means that the full Assembly can vote on this issue in the very near future. Please urge your Assembly representative to oppose this bill. Embryonic stem cell research depends on human cloning and is a radical assault on human life! Take action now.
